Vallee is viewed as one of the leading UFO experts in the world, though I think hes pretty much stopped writing about them. Confrontations, written in , was one of his last books on the subject. But within the UFO community, hes viewed as a voice of dissent. Originally, Vallee, along with just about everyone else, viewed UFOs as extraterrestrial.

About this title "A core curriculum for anyone with a serious interest in ufology. Jacques Vallee is widely recognized as the premier investigating scientist in UFO research today. Going far beyond theoretical analysis, Dr. Valle meticulously documents his own firsthand investigations into sightings around the world with breathtaking eyewitness accounts of alien contact. Complete with maps, sketches, diagrams, and on-the-spot photographs.
From the Publisher: I first met Dr. Vallee while arranging his publicity tour for this second volume in his Alien Contact Trilogy. After all, many people in the UFO community are, shall we say, extremely zealous. I was very impressed by his thoughtful manner and clearheaded analyses. Vallee is widely recognized and honored as the premier investigating scientist and UFO researcher.
In this book, he personally investigates forty UFO sightings. The reader accompanies him around the world as he travels to scientifically document reports of sightings, contact and in some cases abduction and death.
Vallee presents a reasoned, balanced, eloquently written account of his research that supports his conclusion that UFOs are neither imaginary nor extraterrestrial. Rather, he argues, they represent an actual technology with hostile potential. While Vallee stresses the need to maintain scientific objectivity and a critical attitude, he is not afraid to offer theories which go beyond traditional extraterrestrial hypotheses. Among the cases reported here are some in which observers were harmed or died as a result of viewing a UFO.
For each case, Vallee visited the actual site, spoke to witnesses, and concludes that "something happened. Their position in the community, the collaboration of over other area witnesses, and the authenticated photographs and videotape they took make this account more trustworthy than most.
While neither of the books under review provides firm answers about the reality or intent of UFOs, both can be recommended as above-average entries in the genre.
Academic libraries should have the Vallee book, while public libraries will want both. Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.
